To research SEO keywords properly – you need to understand the clients business! Copying higher ranked sites isn’t necessarily the answer! Much of the advice given out by the so-called SEO experts is nothing more than logic – Take it from me, SEO isn’t rocket science!

Let me tell you two good reasons why a keyword research tool should be one of the first tools you get.

1. Keyword research is the foundation of any successful marketing campaign on the internet. If you don’t know exactly what people want, how are you going to know how to sell them? Why guess when you can know what people want?

2. The internet is quickly evolving. To be successful you need to develop strategies to streamline your keyword research process. Don’t think that just because you don’t use Keyword Research Tools, your competitors won’t. You need to be steps ahead of the competition to understand how your market is changing and how to tap the unfold opportunities.

1. Keyword Shitter

Don’t put off by the name, this is an amazing bulk keyword generating tool.

Just enter a seed keyword and hit shit keywords!


This tool will generate unlimited keyword suggestions. It works by mining Google Autocomplete.

I left it running for 20 minutes and had generated 26k suggestions… and it was still running!

Bonus Tip: To show search volume for keywords, install “Keywords Everywhere” chrome extension » Use search settings for a preferred country » Come back to keyword shitter and type your preferred keyword and start seeing search volume.

2. Google Trends

Google trends allow you to see how popular search terms have been over time on Google.

It is the data goldmine to find effective keywords for your content.

Let me show how this can be helpful. when I type the keyword “SEO tools”  and scroll to the bottom, here’s what the results provide…


This show related queries with rising popularity.


You’ll also notice the results will allow you to narrow by Country and the City/State.

Bonus Tip: Go to Google Keyword Planner and start entering in the keywords to find out current search volume. Google Trends is amazing for finding keywords, but NOT for finding current search volume. 

Install “Keywords Everywhere” chrome extension to start seeing search volume under the related queries. ( I recommend this method)

3. Answer The Public

A keyword research tool that speaks human, not search bot.

Instead of spitting out a long list of words, it presents entire phrases in an easy to read graphics.

It uses the auto-suggested results provided by Google and Bing.

4. Soolve

Install the chrome extension “Keywords Everywhere”. It will add info to every search results page telling you related terms visitors searched for Including PPC cost and search volume!

Bonus Tip: Go to settings and select a preferred country, currency, enable/disable metrics from search.

6. Google Keyword Planner

GKP tool was originally intended for Adwords customers for PPC campaigns, rather than SEO. This tool will only be able to show search volume ranges.

The Google Keyword Planner doesn’t give us a clear idea of the level of competition associated with our keywords – It only tells us whether competition is “low”, “medium” or “high”.

Don’t worry, still there are powerful hacks to get the most of Google keyword planner.

Unlock Search Volumes

Go to keyword planner » Find new keywords » Search for seed keywords or phrases

Select the keywords from the list and add to plan » Choose exact match » Add to plan

Now go to keywords menu in the sidebar, now you can find the metrics like clicks, impressions, and cost


Steal Keyword Ideas

Go to keyword planner » Find new keywords » enter competitors URL » unlock their keywords

7. Search Volume

This is the alternative tool to Google Keyword Planner search volume.

Simply enter all your keywords in the field above and click “Submit.”


Then the magic happens!

In seconds, you’ll see the average monthly search volume for your selected keywords. The data can be exported to Excel, and the process can be repeated as many times as you want.

8. Google Search Console

The Google Search Console is an underrated keyword research tool.

To find the keyword opportunities,

Go to: Search Console » Search Traffic » Search Analytics » Queries


You can see which queries sent the most clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position for each query.

Optimizing the page around the keywords which have opportunity can boost your rankings.

Combining Google search console and google analytics accounts will help you get in-depth insights of keywords performance.
